Understanding Compensatory Overtime Credits

455879_w308In the seminar I attended earlier today about leave administration, some of the participants particularly wanted to know the difference between Compensatory Overtime Credit (COC) and Compensatory Time Off (CTO). As the topic is still to be covered by succeeding speakers, I opted not to explain the little that what I know about it. But, for the sake of my blog’s followers and e-mail subscribers who are slowly growing in number  (yeyyy!), I tried to simplify in this post the basic principles of COCs and CTOs . Read on.

How Do You Earn Leave Credits?


Government employees who know what real work-life balance is enjoy their holidays and go on vacation. It keeps them sane and healthy and productive at work. And why not? The Omnibus Rules on Leave  generally guarantee all appointive employees 15 days vacation and 15 days sick leave privileges annually with full pay excluding Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays, without limitation on the number of VL and SL days that they can accumulate.

Terminal Leave Benefit

benefits1My mother is celebrating her 60th birthday this month and we’re excitedly scouting for a place to hold her simple thanksgiving dinner. While we were on it, I suddenly remembered to ask if she has claimed her terminal leave benefits  from her previous employer. My mother, you see, resigned 9 years and 8 months ago from government service. She winced and said “Not yet.”  That prompted me to write about this topic. Continue reading
